The Myra Waterfalls – a natural landmark

Dt./Österr. Originaltext dieses Artikels02Infotafel: The Myra Waterfalls – a natural landmarkThe Myra rises in the „Unterberg“ which is in a distance of about 7 km. The Unterberg is a limestone massif which naturally has many hollow spaces and caves.

The waterfalls were first mentioned in 1802 when people reported on journeys they made. In 1885 the ÖTK (Österreichischer Touristenklub) made the Myra waterfalls accessible to the public. The 26 bridges and numerous staircases and hiking trails have been taken care of by the ÖTK ever since.

Eine Gedenktafel am Fuße der Myrafälle erinnert an den Besuch von Kaiserin Maria Theresia. The Myra waterfalls are about 125m high and about 5 million liters of water pass down through the ravine day by day.
